Tia is a journalist with Benchmark Media, writing for selfmanagedsuper and smstrusteenews. Since graduating from the University of Newcastle with a Bachelor of Communications degree in 2020, she has written articles about environmental issues, diversity, culture and fashion for a number of publications.
Prior to joining Benchmark Media, Tia worked at one of Sydney’s leading radio stations, Nova Entertainment, while also writing articles and website content as a freelancer.
Darin is the founder and publisher of Benchmark Media, an independent publishing house whose mastheads include self-managed super, smstrusteenews, and financialobserver.
He has been covering the financial services space since 2004 and in this time he has worked for a variety of trade publications, including Money Management and IFA.
Darin has also written for the Money section published in The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age.
Before starting Benchmark Media, he was responsible for the 2008 relaunch of SMSF under Morningstar Media, a pioneering publication in the fastest-growing sector of the superannuation industry and an initiative that made him the first journalist to be purely dedicated to space. He was also managing editor of all of the Morningstar Media mastheads.
In 2013, he was the inaugural winner of the SMSF Association’s Trade Journalist of the Year award.
Cynthia O’Young is the events manager at Benchmark Media.
Prior to starting at Benchmark Media in January 2013, Cynthia managed events in the aged-care and tourism industries for peak bodies.
She has a Diploma of Event Management as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Economics (Social Science) and Government from the University of Sydney.
Head of Sales & Marketing
David is Benchmark Media’s head of sales and marketing, working across selfmanagedsuper, smstrusteenews, and financialobserver.
He is responsible for bringing client campaigns to life via print and digital media, video content, and event sponsorships. Assisting clients to reach their target audience of financial planners, accountants and SMSF trustees is his main priority.
David has worked in financial services media for several years after 10 years as an independent financial planner. Prior to this, he held various management roles, including marketing and business development, at insurers and fund managers, so he knows the industry well from both sides.
Veena is a digital optimisation manager at Benchmark Media. She is a passionate marketing professional, with over six-and-a-half years of experience in product marketing, brand management, campaign management and business development.
Her most recent projects included creating a go-to-market strategy, sales conversion, customer acquisition and retention campaign for an edtech company.
Veena has a Master of Business Administration degree from Symbiosis International University, India.
