Research house CoreData and smstrusteenews have capped off a decade of recognising leading SMSF service providers by announcing the winners of the SMSF Service Provider Awards for 2022 at an event in Sydney recently.
The awards, now in their tenth year after being first presented in 2013, cover 15 categories related to investments and services available to SMSF trustees and highlight the leading sector providers, with some previous winners being recognised again alongside first-time winners.
ANZ won the Australian shares category, ending a long winning streak for CommSec after the latter’s share trading business was spun off in early 2021 as AUSIEX, which was the winner in the adviser category of the awards. The win for ANZ was one of three, with the big four bank also recognised as a leader in the cash and term deposits, and residential property loans categories.
AMP Capital was the winner in the international shares category and was also recognised as the leader in the listed investment company category, while PIMCO took out the fixed income category.
Russell Investments was a first-time winner at the awards in the ETF provider category, ending a three-way hold that Vanguard, BetaShares and iShares have had in this category since the commencement of this particular award in 2015.
Other providers breaking a run were Access Super Audit, which ended a three-year streak for Australian Independent Audit Services in the audit function providers category, and BMR Corporate Solutions repeated last year’s success in the trust deed supplier category, replicating the previous back-to-back successes of ClearDocs.
CoreData consultant Grahame Evans said the awards were based on a survey conducted between late July and early September of 371 trustees and the responses were based on a voting sample, so frequency of use and satisfaction determined the winners.
The awards were sponsored by La Trobe Financial and its head of client partnerships for real estate credit, Suzanne Hemsworth, said La Trobe Financial was proud of its long-term support of the awards due to the way they recognise the best providers in the SMSF sector.
“These awards recognise the best in the industry, including best in practice and best in class, with the judging undertaken by both advisers and trustees, so they are very much democratic and representative of the market’s voice. This is a simple but critical difference from a lot of other awards which are pretty much self-promotion,” Hemsworth said.
“La Trobe Financial has a very long history of supporting the adviser, trustee and SMSF market in Australia and we are delighted to be given the opportunity to again partner with Benchmark Media [publisher of smstrusteenews] and CoreData, both of whom do an excellent job in delivering these awards.”
CoreData and smstrusteenews congratulate all the winners for their high level of service provision in the past year.
